New Home Furniture Checklist

What furniture do you need for your new home? A guide to furnishing your new home (or revamping your current one!)

  New home furniture checklist

Whether you’re moving into a new home or revamping your current space, it can be difficult to know where to start. For such an exciting change, we’ve put together an essential checklist to help you decide what you need and how to style it.

Your living space should be cohesive and homely and perfectly functional for all your needs. Here’s what you need for your living room:

1. The sofa

Arguably the most important piece of furniture in your main living space, the sofa is the anchor point for everything which follows. Use your sofa as your first statement piece and let it guide the choices that follow.

2. Coffee table, side table (or both?)

Your coffee table should complement your sofa, in a way that is both aesthetic and functional. You can create added comfort and storage with side tables. If you want your living room to feel more open, you can also opt for just side tables, maximising your space.

3. Chairs and armchairs

Depending on your room size and number of people living in the house, you can add extra chairs as accents to your sofa and coffee table. These can be extra armchairs to match your sofa or stylish corner chairs. Think about how much seating you would need when having friends for dinner and use that as a guide.

4. Accessories & Storage

Typically, you’ll need a unit for your television. Then, we recommend choosing a furniture item where you can both store and display items to add colour and life to your living room. A bookcase or drawer cabinet is ideal.

The next most important space to furnish is your bedroom. As your oasis amongst the business of everyday life, your bedroom should be comfortable and calm. Here’s some essential items for your bedrooms:

1. Bed (of course!)

Enough said really…

2. Bedside table

Do you need one or two bedside tables? Decide where your bed will sit, and if it’s not against a wall, then 2 bedside tables is that extra bit of luxury that you need!

3. Clothing storage

Does your room come with built-in cupboards? If yes, lucky you! Otherwise, a wardrobe or chest of drawers is essential.

4. Furniture for décor

Anything like a bookcase or shelving unit is perfect for displaying your belongings, like photo frames, plants and ornaments.

5. Corner chair

Depending on the size of your room and your remaining budget, adding a cosy corner chair can add that extra touch of luxury to your bedroom.
